Bulgarian naval forces have destroyed a mine floating in the Black Sea.

"The Naval Headquarters received a message about a floating sea mine on June 30, 2022 at 15:10 at the Marine Rescue Coordination Center. The mine was spotted by the Monterey motor ship flying the flag of Liberia 27 nautical miles east of the mouth of the Kamchia River … At 17:35 the crew of the helicopter discovered the mine and transmitted the coordinates to the ship of the Kavarna border police.

Military experts classify the mine as an anchor mine of the "Yam" type, placed in a combat position. At 20:50, a group of demolition divers destroyed the mine in a controlled detonation."

"The naval forces continue to maintain readiness for the survey of areas and mine action to ensure free navigation in the seas of Bulgaria," the Navy said in a statement.
