Canada has imposed sanctions on Russian propagandists and several military-industrial complex enterprises, as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada.
"These sanctions target numerous individuals and entities involved in propaganda and disinformation operations. The list also includes organizations from Russia's military-industrial complex that supply critical technologies and electronic components, supporting Russian military efforts," the statement reads.
Additionally, the new Canadian restrictive measures are aimed at "entities engaged in evading sanctions, facilitating Russia's access to sub-sanctioned goods or revenues from oil sales above the G7 threshold."
"Today's announcement also includes a prohibition on the export of numerically controlled machine tools that Russia could use in weapons production," added the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The expanded sanctions list includes Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alihanov, publisher Aram Gabrelyanov, State Duma deputy Boris Gromov, contributor Alexander Malkevich, public figure Katerina Mizulina, and others. Canada's sanctions now also extend to the platform Voice of Europe, which sought to illegitimately influence elections to the European Parliament, as well as several Russian media operating in illegally occupied territories of Ukraine.
Since Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea, Canada has imposed sanctions on over 3,000 individuals and entities who facilitated the violation of Ukraine's sovereignty.
