Canada has introduced a new temporary migration programme that allows close Ukrainian relatives of Canadians to obtain permanent residency in the country, as announced by the Government of Canada.
"We’ve put a temporary public policy in place to help families affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine reunite in Canada. This policy lets certain Ukrainian foreign nationals in Canada and their family members apply for permanent residence," the statement on the official Government of Canada website reads.
It is reported that applications for this programme opened on October 23. Ukrainian citizens whose close relatives have Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status in Canada can benefit from this program. Close relatives include children, parents, grandparents, spouses, as well as siblings.
Family members can reside both in Canada and outside the country.
