In 2023, nearly 400,000 vehicles were imported into Ukraine, marking the lowest figures in the last three years.
Compared to 2022, the import decreased by 29.5%, according to information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported by Opendatabot.
Last year, a total of 377,063 vehicles were imported, which is 48.8% less than in 2021 when 735,956 vehicles were brought into the country. Compared to 2022, when 534,863 vehicles were imported, the import decreased by 29.5%.
The most frequently imported vehicles were passenger cars, accounting for 73.7% of imports. Motorcycles followed at 10.1%, and trucks at 9.7%.
The average age of the imported vehicles in 2023 is 10 years. The imported cars became, on average, 2 years younger compared to 2022. Over 50% of the cars imported in 2023 are 10 years or older. The oldest passenger car imported last year was a 1990 Toyota Supra.
Gasoline cars remain the most demanded, constituting 43% of the imports. Diesel cars made up 33% of the vehicles imported last year.
The majority of newly imported cars were registered in Kyiv, accounting for 11.5%. Also, among the top three regions were Lviv region (10%) and Odessa region (7.6%).
In 2023, the most popular car brand among all imported vehicles was Volkswagen, accounting for 13.1% of imports. Renault took the second place with 9.2%, and the top five leaders were completed by Skoda, Nissan, and Audi.
Among the models, the most popular one was the Volkswagen Golf (3.2%), followed by Skoda Octavia, Renault Megane, Volkswagen Passat, and Renault Megane Scenic.
