The commander of the Chechen special forces, Major General Apti Alaudinov, has announced that the Russian army has halted the Ukrainian Armed Forces' (UAF) advance in the Sudzha district of Kursk region. Alaudinov stated, "The enemy advancing in the Sudzha direction has been stopped and is being systematically destroyed. At the moment, the enemy, who has already been halted, is being systematically eliminated," as reported by RIA Novosti.
According to Alaudinov, Chechen special forces, the 810th Marine Brigade, the 30th Regiment, and the 2nd Special Forces Brigade are engaged in this area. On August 15, Alaudinov claimed that the Russian army had stopped and blocked the UAF. He reported, “The situation is normal and working. We have eliminated the enemy and advanced forward.” Similar statements were made on August 14.
On August 13, Alaudinov assured that the Russian army had taken control of the situation in Kursk region, noting that “a large part of the territory previously occupied by the enemy is now secured. We are clearing the settlements where the enemy is present, and they are being driven out.”
Previously, on August 11, Alaudinov declared that the Ukrainian "blitzkrieg" had failed, stating, “The forces currently stopped are unable to advance further.” On August 9, he also indicated that the situation was under control, claiming that Russian forces had sufficient strength and resources to complete their mission and halt the enemy.
Ukrainian forces began their incursion into Kursk region on August 6. President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on Monday that the Ukrainian army controls over 1,250 square kilometers of the Kursk region and 92 settlements. Zelensky described the operation as a significant investment in freeing Ukrainians from Russian captivity and noted the high number of Russian prisoners captured in this operation. On August 12, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, stated that Kyiv had taken control of 1,000 square kilometers in Kursk region, surpassing the total area seized by Russia in Ukraine throughout 2024.
