During a working trip to the Mykolaiv region, Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine Kostyantyn Kovalchuk, together with the head of the Recovery Agency Serhiy Sukhomlyn, inspected the progress of work on key sites: the water pipeline route, pumping stations, and the water intake facility.

“Restoring water supply to Mykolaiv is one of the Ministry’s priority tasks. The city needs drinking water, so work is ongoing around the clock — and it is yielding results. Over 90% of the entire route has already been laid, construction and installation works at the pumping stations are nearing completion, and the water intake on the Southern Bug River has been prepared. We are approaching the final stage,” said Kostyantyn Kovalchuk.

The project includes backup power supply to ensure uninterrupted water delivery in case of possible electricity outages. Water for the main pipeline will be drawn from the Southern Bug River. The water intake installation is in its final phase.

In addition to the pipeline itself, the project provides for the installation of solar power plants at the pumping stations and the development of an irrigation system to meet the needs of the region’s farms.

Thanks to the optimization of technical solutions proposed by the Recovery Agency, the project cost has been reduced by more than 2.5 billion UAH. The saved funds will be allocated to other critically important water pipeline projects.

Completion of the main construction and installation works is expected by the end of July, and centralized water supply to Mykolaiv is planned for August.

Background: After the destruction of the water pipeline due to Russian military shelling in 2022, over half a million residents of Mykolaiv were left without centralized drinking water supply. In 2023, water supply was partially restored, but the need for a reliable, long-term solution remained urgent. The implementation of the new main water pipeline project started in the second half of 2024, with active construction beginning in January 2025.
