In the context of Russia's ongoing massive attacks on civilian objects in Ukraine, the member states of the United Nations (UN) should intensify efforts to deprive the aggressor country of its military potential and compel it to cease committing war crimes.

This statement was made by Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the UN, Sergiy Kyslytsia, in a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, writis the diplomat's Twitter account.

In the document, Ukraine's representative expressed his views on the effective response of the UN to the attacks by Russian occupiers on peaceful cities in Ukraine with the aim of terror.

"Dear Antonio Guterres... These large-scale attacks that have no military reason and aim only at terrorizing the civilian population and destroying the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine testify that enhanced and combined efforts by the UN Member States are required to deprive the aggressor of its military capabilities, to enforce the aggressor to cease violations of the UN Charter and to return to the tenets of international law," the statement reads.

The Ukrainian diplomat also once again raised the issue of stripping Russia of its privileges in the UN and expelling the aggressor country from the UN Security Council.

"The crime of aggression, war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the Russian Federation once again testify to the inadmissibility of inaction with regard to Russia’s illegitimate presence in the UN Security Council," emphasized Kyslytsia.
