To the east of Sumy, Russian forces are attempting to expand their zone of control, but settlements are being held by Ukrainian forces.
This was reported in a televised broadcast by the spokesperson of the Operational Command North, Viktor Trehubov.
On the Sumy direction, he said that to the east of Sumy, Russian forces are trying to widen their control area, but local settlements remain under Ukrainian control.
Trehubov added that on the Vovchansk, or South Slobozhanskyi direction, the situation remains stable — Russian forces still have not managed to establish control over the city.
“If we take our area of responsibility, the most active remains the Lyman direction. Russian forces are very actively trying to push there. In our area of responsibility, the number of clashes there is comparable to all other directions combined. If we take everything from Sumy, through all of Kharkiv region, Luhansk region, and up to Lyman, Lyman accounts for roughly as much as all the others combined,” the spokesperson said.
According to him, the second most intense area is the Kupiansk direction. There, Russian forces are attempting to break through to the city itself, reduce the Ukrainian bridgehead east of the Oskil River, and increase pressure toward Kozacha Lopan from the border settlement of Hraniv.
“This is a relatively new point of effort from the Russian side,” Trehubov noted.
