Russian forces in northern Ukraine have decreased the intensity of their shelling but continue to use a wide range of weapons to attack border areas. At the same time, they are reinforcing their defensive positions and strengthening fortifications on their side of the border.
This was reported by Vadym Mysnyk, the spokesperson for the Siversk operational and tactical group of the Ukrainian military, during a nationwide telethon. According to him, despite the reduction in activity, Russian forces continue to shell the Chernihiv, Sumy, and parts of the Kharkiv regions, which are within the responsibility zone of the grouping.
"This is the northern border of our country, and the Russian forces continue daily shelling from Russian territory, particularly targeting the Chernihiv, Sumy, and parts of the Kharkiv regions, which fall within our responsibility zone. We have noticed a slight decrease in the number of shelling incidents and activity in recent days," said Mysnyk.
Despite the reduction in activity, Russian forces have not stopped using all available types of weapons, including unmanned aerial vehicles, FPV drones, mortars, artillery, and, in some cases, multiple launch rocket systems.
Furthermore, the Russians are actively using unguided aviation rockets from helicopters and guided aerial bombs (GABs) from aircraft.
Despite these threats, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are actively responding to aerial attacks by striking Russian territory, including the Bryansk and Kursk regions.
"Of course, where there is an opportunity, our Defense Forces respond. We feel the result of our Defense Forces striking deep into Russian territory, specifically in the depths of Bryansk and Kursk regions," said Mysnyk.
Regarding the strengthening of defense, the colonel noted that a unified defense system has been established in the north. Additionally, new technological developments are being used to fortify the defense.
Mysnyk also emphasized that the Russian forces in the north are constantly employing reconnaissance and sabotage groups, to which our Defense Forces respond with aerial reconnaissance and counter-sabotage reserves.
As for the Russian forces on the northern border, the spokesperson stated that although no large formation has been observed, they continue to fortify their positions on their side of the border. He added that the Russians have a well-developed transport infrastructure and can quickly redeploy forces as needed, and our forces are carefully monitoring the situation, preparing for various developments.
