Russian forces deliberately target civilian objects in Ukraine during mass attacks to cause maximum destruction and "catch up" on what they failed to attack during the winter, particularly targeting energy facilities.
This was reported by a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Andriy Yusov, during a national telethon.
According to him, the likelihood of such combined and mass attacks was known, and it was publicly discussed.
"As for the purpose, it is clear that strikes are aimed precisely at civilian objects that have nothing to do with military or defense infrastructure," Yusov stated.
In other words, deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure to inflict as much destruction as possible is the strategy, complicating the lives of peaceful citizens and exacerbating humanitarian problems in the country.
"What they couldn't do for organizational reasons, they are trying to catch up with now in terms of destroying Ukrainian energy infrastructure," the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate noted.
He emphasized that everything Russia does constitutes war crimes, a fact recognized by the entire world.
"And the resistance to these crimes is also known; the Ukrainian leadership speaks about it to the whole world," he concluded.
