The Ukrainian military has expanded its fleet with a new armored vehicle designed using MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) technology. The Ministry of Defense has officially classified and approved the Canadian-made Roshel Senator MRAP for operational use.
MRAP vehicles are designed with a V-shaped hull to deflect explosive energy and special shock-absorbing seats. They feature a monolithic armor capsule and external blast-resistant components such as wheels, chassis, and engine, which absorb the kinetic energy from mine explosions, preserving the integrity of the crew compartment.
The Roshel Senator is built on an American Ford F-550 heavy pickup chassis. Originally intended for police use, the model has been modified for Ukrainian military needs. The vehicle is equipped with armor to protect against small arms fire and shrapnel, and its V-shaped hull is designed to disperse the energy from a mine or explosive equivalent to 6 kg of TNT. Additionally, the Roshel Senator MRAP features an enhanced suspension, full-wheel drive mechanism, and a 6.7-liter turbo diesel engine producing over 300 horsepower. For frontline use, the vehicle is also equipped with a winch and night vision lights.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has classified and approved over 20 MRAP-class armored vehicles for military use.
