Denmark has raised the level of the cyber threat in telecommunications from medium to high due to the activity of Russian hackers, as reported by Anadolu.
This decision was made by the Danish Civil Protection Agency following a series of attacks aimed at the European telecommunications sector.
Minister of Civil Protection Torsten Schack Pedersen urged telecommunications companies to pay special attention to cyber threats. He noted that Russia is increasingly resorting to hybrid methods of influence, including cyberattacks, and warned of the need to be prepared for such incidents.
Danish military intelligence also named hybrid attacks and acts of sabotage by Russia as some of the key risks in its annual threat report published in December.
In January 2023, a Russian hacking group took credit for cyberattacks on the websites of the Danish central bank and seven private lenders.
An anonymous spokesperson from the hacker group said the attacks were conducted because of Denmark's support for Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia.
"Denmark supports Ukrainian neo-Nazis,” the spokesperson told local media. "That's enough for us to launch an attack on your country's critical infrastructure. The banking sector was selected because it is one of the most important components of this critical infrastructure.”
