The government and parliament of Denmark have announced an agreement to increase funding for the Ukrainian Fund - a mechanism for long-term military support to Ukraine - by an additional 4.4 billion Danish kroner (590 million euros) for the year 2024.

On April 25, the Danish Ministry of Defense confirmed this decision.

The increase in the Ukrainian Fund was agreed upon by Danish political parties and the government in light of the fact that a significant portion of the allocated funds for 2024 has already been utilized, while "there is a need for further substantial military support to Ukraine this year."

"It is very important to show the Ukrainians that we support them in the current serious situation," commented Danish Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen.

The additional funds will primarily be used for direct military support to Ukraine in the form of weapons, other military equipment, and training programs. This includes orders for weaponry from manufacturers and funding initiatives from other countries.

Additionally, there is provision for direct purchases from Ukraine's defense industry "subject to the necessary control mechanisms."

Following the increase in funding, the total amount allocated to the Ukrainian Fund of Denmark for the years 2023-2028 will be 64.8 billion Danish kroner (8.7 billion euros). Of this amount, approximately 41.4 billion kroner had already been allocated for military assistance.
