On 11 August, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal took part in a discussion of the points of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula with foreign ambassadors accredited to Ukraine. The event was also attended by Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak, government officials, representatives of the Presidential Office, and heads of state-owned energy companies.

During the meeting, the Ukrainian side presented information on the points of the Formula related to energy security and prevention of escalation of the war and recurrence of aggression.

According to Denys Shmyhal, russia is likely to continue its large-scale terror against the Ukrainian energy sector this winter. At the same time, russia will use energy resources as a weapon against Europe and other democratic countries.

“Our common task now, within the framework of the Ukrainian Peace Formula, is to restore and protect Ukraine’s energy system as much as possible. Together with dozens of countries, we are working to increase the supply of power equipment, which will allow us to add 2.9 GW of capacity to the grid by December,” the Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed.

The Head of Ukrainian Government also noted active cooperation with European partners in increasing electricity supplies, as well as Ukraine’s readiness to offer European companies the opportunity to store gas in Ukrainian underground storage facilities, which are the largest on the continent.

“Within the framework of the President’s Peace Formula, we will work together with our partners to ensure that in the modern world energy does not become a weapon and critical infrastructure does not become a target of terror,” said Denys Shmyhal.

During the meeting, the Minister of Energy of Ukraine and the heads of state-owned companies Ukrenergo and Naftogaz of Ukraine informed the ambassadors about the priority needs of Ukraine in energy equipment to ensure a stable heating season.
