Ukrainska Pravda has launched a new English-language podcast titled A Dictionary of Ukrainian Emotions, featuring Hollywood actors reading excerpts from Ukrainian plays.
The first episode focuses on the short play by playwright Anastasiia Kosodii, How to Talk to the Dead, written after the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This work reinterprets the horrors witnessed by the residents of Bucha, Mariupol, and other cities affected by the Russian forces.
American actress Alessandra Torresani, known for her roles in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, American Horror Story, Lucifer, and The Big Bang Theory, read the play.
The actress also conversed with the playwright and the project's host, John Friedman.
The podcast was inspired by the anthology A Dictionary of Emotions in a Time of War, curated and translated by American writer, editor, and theater critic John Friedman, published by Laertes Press under the direction of Nina Kamberos.
The first episode concludes with an interview featuring Nina Kamberos, the director of the American publishing house, who shares her experience in publishing a collection of Ukrainian plays written in the early months of the war.
