The meeting between the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, and Vladimir Putin is seen as a display of disrespect towards Ukrainian soldiers. The European Union should not become a hostage to Hungarian politics.
This statement was reported by Politico, citing the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel.
During a conversation with reporters on the second day of the EU leaders' summit, Bettel strongly criticized Orban's meeting with Putin.
"What he (Viktor Orban) has done with Putin is a middle finger to all soldiers, all Ukrainians that are dying every day and that have to suffer from Russian attacks," noted the Prime Minister of Luxembourg.
Bettel also added that the European Union should not become a hostage to Orban, who is making financial demands in exchange for supporting Ukraine.
"(Orban says): if you need money for Ukraine, we need money for us. We should not be hostages to Mr. Orban in this situation. I am convinced we should find positive solutions. We should not forget the past, and Orban should not either," added Bettel.
He further stated that Luxembourg will never join the alliance of the Prime Ministers of Slovakia, Robert Fico, and Orban, who are against providing assistance to Ukraine.
