Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže stated that everyone in Europe agrees that Russia’s frozen assets must be used for the recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine, not returned to Russia.
She made this statement at the Riga Conference.
“There is a consensus across Europe that this money will not go back to Russia. Whatever we call it, it must be used for Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction. That is the most important thing we all agree on. The rest is a matter of technical implementation,” said the Latvian Foreign Minister.
Braže noted that the mechanism for using these funds should be developed by professionals and bankers, who are already proposing solutions. She also supported the European Commission’s proposal to create a “reparation credit” mechanism for Ukraine based on the frozen Russian assets.
