Energy holding company DTEK, through its trading company D.TRADING, made its first delivery of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States via Lithuania, totaling 160,000 cubic meters.

‘The shipment, loaded onto the Gaslog Houston vessel in Plaquemines, Louisiana, was purchased by DTEK on FOB (free on board) terms for the first time. The company handled the chartering and transportation from Louisiana to the Lithuanian terminal in Klaipėda. Gaslog Houston delivered 160,000 cubic meters of LNG, equivalent to approximately 100 million cubic meters of natural gas or 1 TWh of energy, on November 17,’ DTEK stated in a press release shared with EnergoReform.

The release notes that after regasification, these volumes will be directed to Ukraine, the Baltic countries, Poland, and other markets in Eastern Europe.

Commenting on the shipment, DTEK CEO Maksym Tymchenko emphasized that American LNG is key to Ukrainian and European energy independence.

‘This milestone delivery is the result of implementing the concept of our shareholder Rinat Akhmetov: DTEK serves as an energy bridge connecting American producers with a region still heavily dependent on Russian gas. Through terminals on the Baltic and Mediterranean seas, we work with European and American partners to develop economically viable routes for delivering gas to Ukraine and neighboring countries,’ Tymchenko said.

Fred G. Hutchison, President and CEO of LNG Allies (USLNG Association), noted that the arrival of this American LNG shipment in Lithuania is a tangible demonstration of the United States’ unwavering solidarity with Ukraine and a shared commitment to removing Russian gas from Europe.

‘Together with active support from the U.S. government, American LNG producers are rapidly increasing deliveries to Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe. Through expanded public-private cooperation in financing, infrastructure, and long-term contracts, American LNG will continue to play a decisive role in strengthening Europe’s energy security,’ Hutchison emphasized.

Lithuanian Energy Minister Žygimantas Vaičiūnas noted that after Russia’s brutal attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Lithuania responded quickly — the LNG shipment is already on its way to Ukraine.

‘The Klaipėda terminal is one of the busiest and most efficient in Europe, and it also allows us to support Ukraine — through it we can provide gas supplies and strengthen the energy security of our partners. This is a concrete example of our solidarity and transatlantic cooperation. Together, we are seeking ways to ensure reliable gas supplies to Ukraine this winter while maximizing Lithuania’s existing infrastructure,’ the minister explained.

DTEK also stated that, according to its estimates, Ukraine will need to import approximately 4 billion cubic meters of gas this winter due to Russian attacks on gas production and storage infrastructure.

The company is negotiating additional American LNG imports to Europe, using both the Northern Corridor and the southern Vertical Gas Corridor, which starts in Greece and passes through Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, into Ukraine.

DTEK emphasized that it supports the European Union’s efforts to completely abandon Russian gas by the end of 2027, leveraging its influence across dozens of countries in Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe. The company recalled that in December 2024, it delivered 100 million cubic meters of gas to this region via the Revithoussa terminal in Greece.

‘DTEK’s efforts to increase American LNG supplies to Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe are aimed at strengthening the energy security of Ukraine and neighboring countries,’ the energy holding stressed
