The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) detained another Russian agent in the Khmelnytskyi region. The perpetrator was collecting coordinates of local military facilities and defense factories, which the Russian forces planned to target with combined drone and missile attacks.
The investigation found that the FSB agent was a local handyman. He came under the Russian intelligence’s radar while looking for “easy earnings” on Telegram channels.
To gather intelligence, he extracted “needed” information during casual conversations with acquaintances. He then conducted reconnaissance on-site, photographing potential targets and marking their coordinates on Google Maps.
SSU cyber specialists gradually documented the agent’s subversive activities and caught him “red-handed” while attempting to film near a potential “target.”
During searches, the suspect’s smartphone containing evidence of his work for the Russian forces was seized.
SSU investigators charged the detainee under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under martial law).
The perpetrator is in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
