The European Union will continue to support Ukraine despite opposition from Hungary. Other member countries of the bloc may act even without Budapest.
This information comes from the spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany, as cited by Handelsblatt.
The spokesperson emphasized that support for Ukraine would continue in any case.
"For us, as the German government, it is obvious that the fund for Ukraine remains the best and most sustainable solution from our point of view," he added, referring to the plan to allocate 50 billion euros in financial assistance in future EU budgets.
According to the spokesperson, even without Hungary, the other 26 EU countries could take action. However, he decided not to comment on how this would be implemented.
The publication also notes that, according to reports from other media outlets, a Plan B is currently being developed, which may include an intergovernmental agreement among the 26 EU members without Hungary or guarantees from these countries for loans to be resumed by the European Commission. However, the spokesperson for the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that securing it in the EU budget remains a priority for their government.
