Germany will finance additional U.S. arms deliveries for Ukraine worth $300 million through the PURL mechanism and will also allocate $200 million for the purchase of PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems.

This was announced by German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius ahead of a meeting of NATO defence ministers in Brussels.

According to Pistorius, Germany is participating in the PURL mechanism for the fourth time. The initiative finances U.S. weapons and ammunition for Ukraine that are urgently needed, can be delivered faster, and are not produced in Europe.

“These are especially urgently needed air defence munitions. Through this, we are literally saving lives every night and every day. This time our contribution amounts to $300 million,” the minister said.

He also announced a new German contribution to the “Jumpstart” programme, which provides funding for the purchase of specialised missiles for Patriot systems.

“My Ukrainian colleague Mykhailo Fedorov asked me to support the so-called Jumpstart programme. It is aimed primarily at securing the purchase of guided missiles for Patriot systems. We have agreed to participate and allocate $200 million for the purchase of PAC-3 missiles,” Pistorius said.

The German defence minister added that Berlin aims to encourage other members of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group to contribute to financing PAC-3 missile purchases for Ukraine’s air defence.
