The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) has provided an additional €2.4 million to support the project "Restoring Green Industry through Local Development in Ukraine" as part of the UNIDO-Ukraine program for green industrial recovery for 2024-2028.
The agreement for this funding contribution was signed in Vienna, with the participation of UNIDO Director-General Gerd Müller, Germany's Permanent Representative to UNIDO Rüdiger Reiner Bonn, and Ukraine's Permanent Representative to UNIDO Oleksandr Oborsky.
"Municipalities in Ukraine are facing the direct impact of war and destruction, but they also hold the keys to recovery. By working at the local level, we enable municipalities to take the initiative in shaping their own future. This project will provide critically important support to local authorities, equipping them with the skills and resources needed to drive green industrial growth," emphasized Rüdiger Reiner Bonn.
The joint program for "green" industrial recovery for 2024-2028, implemented by the Ukrainian government and UNIDO, aims to develop a sustainable, environmentally friendly, and resilient industry in Ukraine.
The program focuses on creating opportunities for people, supporting businesses, attracting investments, and promoting the development of a "green" economy. Through close collaboration with development and financing partners, including Germany, UNIDO ensures impact across all thematic areas of its work through a strategic approach and an integrated portfolio of technical cooperation measures.
The new project is expected to strengthen the capacity of the public sector and state institutions at both the national and municipal levels to contribute to the "green" recovery of industry.
"This initiative, supported by the deployment of regional development coordinators, focuses on empowering Ukrainian municipalities as drivers of sustainable development and inclusive growth," the statement said.
