During a combat mission on October 1, a Ukrainian MiG-29 was hit by a Russian missile, and the pilot was killed.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported this on Telegram.
“Today, October 1, 2026, another Ukrainian defender was killed in combat. Flying a MiG-29 fighter jet, he carried out missile and bomb strikes against Russian forces on one sector of the front. During the combat mission, the aircraft was hit by an enemy missile. The pilot ejected but, unfortunately, did not survive,” the statement said.
The Air Force said that Captain Marat Redvanovych Mambetov was a flight commander with the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade, known as the “Ghost of Kyiv.”
“We express our sincere condolences to Marat’s family and loved ones. He defended Ukraine until his last breath,” the Air Force said.
