Google Translate has added Crimean Tatar language to the list of available languages for translation

Google Translate has added the Crimean Tatar language to its list of supported languages for translation. This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

"This is an important step in preserving a language that is currently under threat. For decades, and even now, Russia has been desperately trying to destroy it, just like the Crimean Tatars and their culture," the statement reads.

According to the Ministry, this feature will enable millions of people around the world to learn and use the Crimean Tatar language, thus making the culture of Ukraine's indigenous people more accessible.

"We thank Google for this important initiative, which once again confirms that the rich linguistic and cultural heritage of the Crimean Tatars is a value for the global community," the ministry added.

Russian forces occupied the Crimean peninsula in 2014. Since then, Russian occupiers have conducted massive repression and illegal detentions of Ukrainian citizens in occupied Crimea.
