In Lviv, the Sculpture Week has opened—a yearly festival showcasing sculptures in urban and artistic spaces.

In 2024, this festival is being held for the third time, dedicated to the theme of memory.

“We are not only discussing the past but also exploring new artistic formats, particularly in public spaces,” say the organizers. The festival program includes exhibition projects, tours, lectures, and discussions.

Here are some exhibition projects to visit:

Volodymyr Semkiv's "Kindergarten"

This exhibition explores childhood states, delving into the deep emotional conditions of adults hidden behind a mask of childhood. The first hall is dedicated to the birth of a child, while the subsequent ones focus on the stages of growth and maturation.

  • When: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Tuesday-Sunday) until November 10, 2024
  • Where: Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum

"Memory of the Theatre"

The theatrical space has been transformed into a site for the installation of objects associated with its history, enhanced by sculptures from artists like Mykola Malyshko, Volodymyr Semkiv, Denys Shymanskyi, Oleksii Abramov, and others. The items displayed relate to the daily life of the theater: cabinets, mirrors, models of stage design, wigs, and weights for lifting decorations.

  • When: 2:00 PM – 9:00 PM (Tuesday-Sunday) until December 1
  • Where: Maria Zankovetska National Academic Drama Theatre

Denys Shymanskyi's "Puzzle"

This project is designed as an immersive game-installation. The author invites participants to engage and consider the potential outcomes of each proposed game.

  • When: 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Tuesday-Sunday) until January 12, 2025
  • Where: "Ya Gallery," Shota Rustaveli Street

"Sculptures/Machines"

This special project allows attendees to observe the process of creating installations, exhibitions, and sculptures, as artists will be finalizing their works and delivering or hanging them.

  • When: Until February 15, 2025
  • Where: "Kivsh," Shevchenka Street, 120-H

Oleksii Abramov and Yaroslav Herasymenko's "Protective Shell"

This project focuses on vulnerability and resilience. “A person among other beings seemed weak and delicate, but the constant aggression of war has taught us to don metal, leather, and wooden armor, bringing us closer to a more resilient animal form,” the exhibition description states.

  • When: 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM (Tuesday-Sunday) until January 19, 2025
  • Where: "Ya Gallery. Penthouse," Zelena Street, 20
