In Odeіsa on August 23, in honor of Flag Day, a blue-and-yellow banner measuring 18 by 4.5 meters was unfurled at the Vorontsov Lighthouse. Additionally, a state flag measuring 30 by 12 meters was displayed for the first time since the full-scale invasion on the Potemkin Stairs.
Nataliya Mazharova, the head of the NGO Vyshyvankovy Festival, explained that the tradition of displaying the flag on the Potemkin Stairs was established in 2009 and continued uninterrupted until the start of the full-scale invasion. However, today the organizers displayed a flag from 2021.
"This is the first event since the start of the full-scale war. We decided to hold it spontaneously and did not publicize it for security reasons. Making a new flag requires time and financial resources," Mazharova explained.
Another massive flag was hoisted at dawn over the Vorontsov Lighthouse. This tradition for Ukraine’s Flag Day has been ongoing for the fifth consecutive year.
The event was also attended by Oleg Kiper, Head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, and Oleksiy Neizhpapa, Commander of the Ukrainian Navy.
Oleg Kiper noted that the colors of the Ukrainian flag symbolize resilience and strength around the world.
"Victory is ours! And very soon, the blue-and-yellow flags will spread their wings over the squares of all our cities and towns," said the Head of the Regional State Administration.
