In Poland, the number of supporters for accepting Ukrainian refugees has dropped from 94% in March 2022 to 53% in September this year, according to a survey by the Polish Center for Public Opinion Research (CBOS), reported by PAP.
When asked about their stance on accepting Ukrainian refugees, 53% of respondents supported the idea, while 40% expressed a negative opinion.
“Support for accepting Ukrainian refugees in Poland is now at its lowest level since the Russian invasion in February 2022. Back in March 2022, 94% of people held this view, and over the next year, support remained around 80%,” CBOS noted.
The significant decrease in support has been recorded since the spring of 2023, correlating with the start of the so-called grain crisis in Polish-Ukrainian relations. In March 2022, only 3% were opposed to accepting refugees, but this number has now risen to 40%.
Men are more likely to support accepting Ukrainian refugees (60%) compared to women (47%). Opposition is stronger among those with right-wing political views than those with left-wing views.
The survey was conducted from September 12 to 22 on a sample of 941 people, using various methods (CAPI, CATI, and CAWI).
