In the European Parliament, signatures are being collected for a vote of no confidence in the European Commission after the unfreezing of €10 billion for Hungary during the EU leaders' summit in December.

This was revealed by Lithuanian MEP Petras Auštrevičius, as reported by Delfi.

"€10 billion on the table, he (Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán) left the room, here's your ticket for €10 billion. In my estimation, the Commission made a mistake. If this unfreezing had to be done, it should have been done earlier. I haven't seen any analytical papers from the European Commission on the basis of which Hungary was unfrozen, meaning what criteria Hungary fulfilled for us to make such a positive decision for €10 billion," said Auštrevičius.

He noted that, according to his information, there are no such papers confirming Hungary's compliance with the European Commission's requirements.

"EU member states were not informed. So, the decision is political, and therefore, who takes the risk? Von der Leyen. Therefore, some of my colleagues in the European Parliament have already started an initiative process—collecting signatures of no confidence in the EC," he added.

According to the politician, Orbán "played a game he had been preparing for over a year."

"€28 billion and more are frozen. He now received €10 out of €28, leaving €18. This means the game will continue... He (Orbán) dictates the terms, he is the one who starts and finishes the process. But for this, Hungary will pay a high price because distrust in Orbán has grown even more," added Auštrevičius.
