From June 9 to 15, the bodies of 4,812 deceased citizens were returned to Ukraine as part of repatriation efforts.
This was reported by Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov on Facebook.
“As part of the Istanbul agreements, the repatriation of the bodies of the fallen continues. Today, the Russian side handed over another 1,200 bodies to Ukraine. In total, 4,812 bodies of the deceased have been returned this week,” Umerov stated.
The Minister of Defense added that an important and responsible stage lies ahead — identification. It is a complex and delicate process that enables each family to receive answers.
Umerov expressed gratitude to everyone involved in this humanitarian mission.
According to the results of the repatriation efforts, the bodies of 1,212 fallen defenders were returned to Ukraine on June 11; 1,200 bodies of fallen Ukrainian defenders on June 13; 1,200 bodies of deceased citizens on June 14 (according to the Russian side, these include servicemen); and another 1,200 bodies of deceased citizens on June 15 (also reportedly including servicemen, according to the Russian side).
