In the Sumy region, the Russian forces are attempting to break through the defense near the settlements of Novenke and Zhuravka. This was reported at a briefing by State Border Guard Service spokesperson Andriy Demchenko.

"The reports that the Russian Federation has broken through the border in the Sumy region and deeply penetrated are false. Of course, the Russian troops are trying to enter Ukrainian territory to improve their position. The enemy may be planning to encircle our forces in the Kursk region or cut off logistical routes," Demchenko said, adding that the two directions—Novenke and Zhuravka, which are on the left flank of the Kursk border—are currently the most active.

According to him, in the direction of Zhuravka, the Russians attempted to break through the defense with columns of military equipment.

"The equipment was destroyed by Ukrainian defense forces. They failed there. But the enemy continues to use small assault groups," Demchenko clarified.

He further stated that the Russian forces are currently focusing more on using assault groups in the direction of Novenke.

"Their main goal is to enter our territory as much as possible, accumulate forces, and later, when they have enough strength, expand the combat zone within our territory. But all those groups that enter Ukraine are destroyed," Demchenko assured, adding, "This is a kill zone where the Russians are dying."

Currently, there are no conditions for the complete cutting off of logistical routes, the spokesperson concluded.
