In the border area of Sumy region, Russian forces continue to send infantry groups into Ukrainian territory within the Yunakivska and Khotinska communities.

This was reported on air by the spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service, Andriy Demchenko.

“Of course, the situation is difficult. I would even say complicated, because the enemy continues to send its infantry groups into Ukrainian territory within these two communities (Yunakivska and Khotinska). If initially there were two directions noted for such actions — the settlements of Basivka and Zhuravka — now we observe that the enemy is trying to expand the zone of entry of these infantry groups into Ukraine,” Demchenko said.

According to him, these efforts are preceded by numerous shellings of Defense Forces’ positions aimed at destroying them and complicating their defensive capability. In particular, the Russian forces use drones, artillery, guided bombs (GAB), and unguided air-to-ground missiles.

“And here we must give credit to our warriors, who bravely hold the defense, daily destroying dozens of invaders — killed and wounded — but unfortunately, the enemy does not count its losses. Some die — others continue to advance,” the spokesperson said.

Demchenko added that the State Border Guard Service has not observed the Russians using armored vehicles, either due to their insufficient numbers or to preserve them for future operations.

“It’s exclusively infantry groups; sometimes they try to break through on quad bikes and motorcycles to use speed and advance as far as possible into Ukrainian territory, secure positions by hiding in burrows, various plantations, and wait for reinforcements in order to accumulate forces and then expand the combat zone and attack Ukrainian positions,” he explained.

At the same time, the spokesperson assured that border guards and units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in this direction use artillery and drones to destroy Russian infantry groups and prevent them from easily advancing into Ukrainian territory.
