Ukrainians have created a unique electronic warfare complex to enhance defense capabilities. It suppresses satellite navigation systems, including the Russian GLONASS. Vice Prime Minister for Innovation, Education, Science, and Technology Development, Mykhailo Fedorov, reported this development.
"Piranha AVD 360 is a unique electronic warfare complex designed to bolster our defense forces. This technology helps protect armored vehicles and personnel more effectively from hostile drones," he explained.
"The complex creates a protective dome within a range of up to 600 meters around itself. Under the system's influence, a drone or kamikaze drone cannot receive commands or transmit data. As a result, the drone either hovers in the air, makes an emergency landing, or falls uncontrollably," the minister explained the electronic warfare system's working principle.
Piranha also suppresses satellite navigation systems, including the Russian GLONASS. Fedorov noted that the system has successfully passed field trials and is ready for mass production.
GLONASS is a Soviet and Russian satellite navigation system developed by order of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR. It is one of the two global satellite navigation systems currently in operation.
GLONASS is designed to provide real-time navigation and time information to an unlimited number of users on land, sea, in the air, and space. The system is based on 24 satellites that move in three orbital planes with an inclination of 64.8° and an altitude of 19,100 km above the Earth's surface. The measurement principle is similar to the American NAVSTAR GPS navigation system. The main difference from the GPS system is that GLONASS satellites do not have resonance (synchronicity) with the Earth's rotation in their orbital motion.
