On November 9th, the 14th meeting of the Ukrainian-German working group on scientific and technological cooperation took place in Germany. The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Denis Kurbatov and Acting Director General of the Directorate of Science and Innovation Grigory Mozolevich from the Ministry of Education and Science. Along with representatives of the German government and the community of Ukrainian and German scientists, they discussed current issues of cooperation in the field of science and technology.
The meeting also approved the results of the selection of projects for the establishment of German-Ukrainian centers for advanced research.
Four projects won in the competitive selection in 2023 and received financial support from Germany for further development, with a total funding of 10 million euros. The centers will be led by leading German and Ukrainian scientists.
The Center for Advanced Research on Natural Compounds (CENtR) is planned to be located in Lviv. There, scientists will work on strategies for the discovery and medical application of new bioactive anti-infective agents.

Main partners in Ukraine: LLC "Explogen" and Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.
The Center for Advanced Research on Quantum Materials (GU-QuMat) will be built in Kyiv. Its focus will be on the search for new quantum materials and their functionality as a platform for future technologies.
Main partner in Germany: Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research (Dresden)
Main partner in Ukraine: Kyiv Academic University (KAU).
The Center for Advanced Research on Plasma Technologies (PLASMA-SPIN-ENERGY) will be located in Kharkiv. Its goal is to use plasma technologies for the production of spintronic components, which are a promising basis for next-generation computers.
Main partner in Germany: Max Planck Institute for Microstructure Physics (Munich)
Main partner in Ukraine: V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.
The Center for Advanced Research on German-Ukrainian and European History of the 20th Century (EUU20) will study the rule of two major criminal regimes in European history of the 20th century — Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union during Stalin's era. The center will be established in Lviv.
Main partner in Germany: Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.
Main partner in Ukraine: Ukrainian Catholic University.
Thanks to these projects, Ukrainian students, postgraduates, and researchers will have access to international knowledge and research at the modern scientific infrastructure, contributing to the further development of education and the scientific and technical sector in Ukraine.
