Iryna Vereshchuk: It is necessary to establish the process of preliminary selection of DNA material from defenders
Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, chaired a meeting with regional coordinators of the Office of the Commissioner for Missing Persons.
During the meeting, they discussed the most pressing issues related to the interaction of coordinators with the National Police, the Security Service of Ukraine, military units and Territorial Centers for Recruitment and Social Support.
One of the most important issues considered was the preliminary selection of genetic DNA material from military personnel who are going to serve in the Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies.
The legislation provides for mandatory sampling of biological material from military personnel and members of volunteer groups of territorial communities. To implement the law, a procedure for sampling human genomic information has already been developed. The document is currently being approved by the central executive authorities.
According to this procedure, human DNA will be digitized and stored in the personal file of the military. Appropriate equipment for collecting, digitizing and storing DNA samples has already been purchased.
“Undoubtedly, this is extremely important during the war. The genetic material of all our defenders should be stored in a single database of genetic traits. It is thanks to the availability of genetic samples that the identification process will be simplified. I hope that the relevant authorities will speed up the process of launching this procedure,” emphasized Iryna Vereshchuk.
