British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced the acceleration of the UK program to deliver more than 5,000 multi-purpose missiles to Ukraine.
He said this during a joint media appearance in London with leaders of the Coalition of the Willing and the NATO Secretary General.
“We are accelerating our British program to deliver more than 5,000 multi-purpose missiles to Ukraine. This program has created hundreds of excellent jobs in Belfast, and now the team is working to deliver an additional 140 missiles early to strengthen Ukraine’s defence this winter,” he said.
He also voiced support for US sanctions on Russia’s largest energy companies.
“President Trump was right to impose sanctions on Russian oil giants, as did the United Kingdom, and now with the EU’s new package of sanctions. We must keep up that pressure,” he stressed.
He added,
“Putin is the only person who does not want to stop this war. His strikes on civilians this week clearly demonstrated that: he again targeted energy infrastructure on the eve of winter, hit a kindergarten, and also took the lives of a 12-year-old girl and a six-month-old baby in Kyiv. That is who Putin is. Again and again he rejects the possibility of ending the war. In just the last few days he has once more refused negotiations, making absurd demands over Ukrainian land that he could not and would not be able to seize by force. Of course, this is completely unacceptable and again shows that he is not serious about peace,” Starmer emphasized.
“So today we made clear that we must respond by cooperating with the United States. This coalition is determined to go further than ever to increase pressure on Putin from the battlefield to his war economy, because that is the only way to force him to change his position and return to negotiations,” he added.
Starmer also stressed:
“We are determined to advance work on Russian sovereign assets and unlock billions of dollars to help finance Ukraine’s defence. The bill for the destruction Russia has caused in Ukraine must be paid by Russia itself. We want to move quickly on reparations loans and ensure funds flow to Ukraine.”
