Latvia has ordered Patria 6x6 armored personnel carriers to supply them to Ukraine, with delivery expected by late 2025.
According to Latvia’s Ministry of Defense, the number of ordered vehicles has not been disclosed, but the contract will not affect previous agreements for Latvia’s own military.
"Latvian-made armored vehicles will be supplied to Ukraine’s defenders this year. We are not only supporting Ukraine in its fight against the occupiers but also testing the use and durability of these vehicles in real combat conditions, providing valuable insights for the National Armed Forces," said Defense Minister Andris Spruds.
The delivery of these vehicles to Ukraine will not affect the volume or timeline of Latvia’s previous orders for its National Armed Forces.
Under an intergovernmental cooperation program between Finland, Latvia, Sweden, and Germany, Latvia signed a framework agreement on August 30, 2021, to acquire more than 200 Patria 6x6 APCs.
In parallel, Latvia’s Defense Ministry and National Armed Forces continued collaboration with partner countries on the development of the Common Armored Vehicle System (CAVS), including a joint command-and-control platform. The design phase was completed in summer 2024, allowing Latvia to place an additional order for 56 command vehicles alongside the APCs.
