Member countries of the Coalition for Demining have agreed to procure equipment worth €22 million to support the needs of Ukraine's State Special Transport Service and the Support Forces Command of the Armed Forces. Lithuania is allocating €15 million, while Sweden is contributing €7 million.
The decision to purchase pickup trucks and vans for the Support Forces Command and the State Special Transport Service was made during a coalition partners meeting held in Reykjavík, Iceland.
During the meeting, representatives from participating countries, alongside members of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and the Support Forces Command, discussed future operational plans. The Ukrainian delegation included Colonel Ruslan Berehuly, head of the Main Directorate for Mine Action, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety; Major General Dmytro Hereha, commander of the Support Forces; and Colonel Maksym Komisarov, deputy head of the State Special Transport Service Administration.
Participants reviewed the procurement list for current humanitarian and combat demining operations, as well as a roadmap project for developing the capabilities of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces demining units through 2034.
Colonel Ruslan Berehuly emphasized the Coalition's role in humanitarian demining of liberated territories and briefed partners on the overall situation and challenges in mine action.
Major General Dmytro Hereha expressed gratitude to partner countries for their support in combat demining and for supplying essential equipment to Ukraine’s engineering units. He also informed coalition members about the specific applications of these engineering units.
The seventh working meeting included directors of defense ministries and experts from member countries. The Coalition, chaired by Lithuania and Iceland, aims to enhance the combat and humanitarian demining capabilities of Ukraine's Armed Forces and the State Special Transport Service.
