On February 1, 2025, the 52nd meeting of the Japan Association of Ukrainian Studies was held in Tokyo, led by Professor Yoshihiko Okabe. The association, which has been active for over 30 years, continues to foster interest and research in Ukrainian culture, history, and language in Japan.

According to the Ukrainian Embassy in Japan, the event saw a growing number of participants each year, with increasing engagement from journalists, businesses, public organizations, and representatives from related academic fields.

"It is noteworthy that this year's Association's main award for published works in the field of Ukrainian studies was given not to professional Ukrainists, but to authors who began researching Ukraine after the full-scale Russian invasion," the post reads.

The embassy thanked the members of the Association for their diligent work in creating a new scientific discourse and changing the outdated views on Ukraine, which had been shaped in Japan over the years through the lens of censored Moscow archives.
