Chisinau will continue to insist on the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Transnistrian region, stated the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova, Nicu Popescu.

"Russia must withdraw its troops from the Transnistrian region. This will create favorable conditions for a peaceful resolution of the Transnistrian conflict," Popescu wrote on his social media page.

As reported by the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, this was discussed during meetings between Popescu and the foreign ministers of Romania, Spain, the Czech Republic, Denmark, and France. The meetings took place on Thursday on the sidelines of the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting in North Macedonia.

Popescu also mentioned that the discussions also covered the issue of Moldova's integration into the European Union, particularly in the context of the upcoming EU Council meeting.

"I thanked my colleagues for their support and emphasized that we must continue to assist Ukraine," added Popescu.

In February, the head of the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nicu Popescu, emphasized the need for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria. "We intend to achieve the withdrawal of Russian troops and weapons that are illegally present on our territory. This goal is crucial in our foreign policy. However, we will pursue this goal exclusively through peaceful methods, negotiations, and diplomacy," the minister stated on February 14.

On February 21, Moldova's Prime Minister, Dorin Recean, also stressed the necessity of the prompt withdrawal of the operational group of Russian troops from Transnistria.

"Moldova is involved in a process that envisions exclusively a peaceful resolution of the Transnistrian issue. This means that Russia must withdraw its troops, evacuate weapons, and ammunition. Russia has committed to doing this, not just once. We must ensure that Russia fulfills its promises. This also implies demilitarization," Recean told journalists.
