Ukraine Exported 99,300 Tons of Bioethanol in 2024
This was reported on Telegram by Nina Yuzhanina, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax, and Customs Policy.
She noted that the production capacity of the 17 bioethanol plants operating in the country exceeds 420,000 tons per year. Twelve of these enterprises were privatized in recent years.
“Only three privatized bioethanol plants exported their products in 2024, totaling 38,100 tons, or 38% of total exports. Private producers accounted for 62% of bioethanol exports,” the MP stated.
According to Yuzhanina, the key factors for the development of bioethanol production in Ukraine were:
- the replacement of Russian methanol with Ukrainian bioethanol by oil and gas extraction companies;
- the supply of consolidated batches of bioethanol (minimum 10,000 tons) to the EU market;
- the logistical advantage of exporting bioethanol by fuel trucks to EU refineries, with gasoline delivered back to Ukraine on return trips;
- the removal of quotas on bioethanol exports to the EU (a quota of 100,000 tons of ethyl alcohol per year has already been restored);
- the introduction of a mandatory 5% bioethanol blending requirement in gasoline in Ukraine.
