Almost two-thirds of the cargo handled this year by the State Enterprise “International Trade Port Chornomorsk” consists of grain crops destined for export.
This was recently reported by the newly appointed director of the enterprise, Vyacheslav Bezruk.
According to the head of the port, due to seasonal decline and a general slowdown in cargo flows in the region, some areas of the port’s operations have had to be reoriented.
“We have focused on what is critically important for Ukraine’s economy — ensuring stable food exports. Grain traditionally makes up the core of the cargo flow here — a strategically important commodity not only for our country but also for the global market. In the first four months of 2025, out of a total 1.3 million tons of cargo handled, 826.2 thousand tons were grain crops. This is nearly 64% of the total throughput,” the official detailed.
He also said that the enterprise will continue to emphasize the development of bulk cargo transshipment — one of the key directions in modern port logistics. Given Ukraine’s growing role as an agricultural state and an important supplier of raw materials to global markets, increasing capacity in this segment is not only strategically important but vital.
Another priority is the restoration of the tugboat fleet. The International Trade Port Chornomorsk aims to regain its leadership position in providing tugboat services. Until recently, the utilization rate of state-owned tugboats did not exceed 25%. Among the vessels allowed for operation, only two were state-owned tugs: “Stanislav Strebko” and “Tigris,” with the rest being private vessels.
“We immediately set out to address this imbalance. On May 16, I signed an order at the enterprise to commission the tugboat ‘Kapitan Nezavitin.’ This opens up new opportunities for the enterprise to regain the market share of tugboat services that has been lost to private operators in recent years. The state has all the resources to provide competitive services — and we are already demonstrating this in practice,” emphasized Vyacheslav Bezruk.
