The Ministry of Defense is working to ensure equal access to jobs in the demining sector.

This was shared by the head of the demining management department, Deputy Head of the Main Directorate for Demining, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety, Colonel Oleg Shuvarsky, during the workshop 'Social Inclusion and Gender Equality in the Context of Demining Activities in Ukraine.'

'Our goal is to ensure equal opportunities for everyone, including women, people with disabilities, and representatives of different social and cultural groups. For example, currently, the share of women involved in demining activities is over 35%,' Oleg Shuvarsky stated.

The workshop was organized by the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD). Research by this organization indicates that many of those who have been affected by explosive remnants of war would like to take an active role in demining tasks. For example, after completing the relevant courses, they would like to remotely operate mine-clearing vehicles and UAVs or engage in educational or communication activities.

The Ministry of Defense had previously announced plans to involve veterans in demining work.
