The new film by Ukrainian documentary filmmaker and Oscar laureate Mstyslav Chernov, 2000 Meters to Andriivka, won the Best Director award at the American Sundance Film Festival. It received the prize in the World Cinema Documentary Competition category.
The film tells the story of the liberation of the village of Andriivka near Bakhmut by the Third Assault Brigade.
The video is presented by Mstyslav Chernov, and in between his narration, scenes from the film are shown, complemented by quotes from the heroes.
"This is the story of Ukrainian soldiers fighting for every inch of their land. It’s the story of a small forest and the village of Andriivka, just two hours away from my hometown. It’s the story of modern warfare, how it is fought, how it is endured, and how it changes us," Chernov describes.
The film was created in collaboration with Frontline and Associated Press, just like 20 Days in Mariupol. Its world premiere took place on January 23, 2025, at Sundance, which will run until February 2.
