NATO has restricted intelligence sharing with Hungary

NATO has restricted the sharing of intelligence with Hungary due to concerns about the Hungarian government's stance towards the Alliance.

A NATO official in Brussels explained that the Alliance's decision means Hungary receives less information from its allies both bilaterally and through NATO's central channels.

"The problem is that everyone feels the impact because Alliance members exchange less classified intelligence through NATO's central channels, knowing that Hungary is among the recipients," he noted.

According to the official, NATO has created separate channels for information sharing to which Hungarian representatives do not have access and are not even aware of.

A former European intelligence officer explained that the main problem for NATO lies in Hungary's political leadership.

"Even if we trust their senior intelligence officers, ultimately, if we share information with them, it could end up in reports that reach Orban's desk," he said.
