New Honorary Consul in Odessa representing the Socialist Republic of Vietnam

Illustrious Vietnamese-Ukrainian doctor became Honorary Consul of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Odessa.

The Head of the Department of the pulmonary-surgery of the Odessa Regional Tuberculosis Dispensary, Honoured Doctor of Ukraine Nguyên Van Han became the Honorary Consul of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Odessa.

This decision was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The new Honorary Consul was presented by the Ambassador of Vietnam to Ukraine and Moldova Nguyên Hông Thach.

Dr. Han is the former president of the Odessa Vietnamese Association. He has been living in Ukraine since 1979. In 1985, he graduated from the Odessa Medical University; in 1995, he became a citizen of Ukraine. He is married to a Ukrainian woman. In 2010, President Viktor Yushchenko awarded him the title of Honoured Doctor, and in 2015 Nguyên Van Han was named among the top 10 best doctors in Southern Ukraine.

He is the author of numerous scientific papers and patented treatments. During his career, the Vietnamese-Ukrainian doctor has saved an incalculable number of human lives.

Nguyên Van Han said it was a great honour and committed to do his best to contribute to the development of relations between Vietnam and Ukraine, support the Vietnamese community to Odessa, in the common interest of both countries.

This is my home country for a long time. When I studied at the institute, I was sure that I would go to Vietnam to treat people. But it turned out differently. I got married and stayed here for family reasons. And I have been flying people here for a long time. Working for people is patriotism. A patriot is not the one who shouts about it, but the one who works. If the nurse in my department does not wash the floor “for my uncle,” but for conscience”, that is patriotism.
