Norway will fund a new aid package for Ukraine worth 3.2 billion kroner (€269.248 million). The package includes weapons and ammunition for F-16 fighter jets, as well as surface-to-air missiles, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre announced.
“Today I can confirm that Norway will finance a new weapons package for Ukraine worth 3.2 billion kroner. The package consists of weapons and ammunition for F-16 fighters, as well as air defense missiles. Norway is purchasing this equipment from the U.S. under the established program to support Ukraine,” he said at a press conference in Oslo on Wednesday.
In addition to supporting Ukraine through the Nansen program, Norway is actively engaged in political negotiations, such as those held in Berlin on Monday, Støre noted.
“Real political and diplomatic work is ongoing to reach an agreement. This mainly involves the U.S. and Ukraine, while continuous contact with European security advisors is maintained. The goal is to build a stronger joint approach between Ukraine, the U.S., and Europe,” he added.
According to the Prime Minister, Europe alone does not have sufficient power to change Russia’s policy, and Ukraine understands that American involvement in the peace process is decisive.
“In this diplomatic work, the parties have made the most progress on security guarantees. They have also worked on a plan for Ukraine’s reconstruction and economic development, and significant progress has been achieved here as well. The most unresolved issue remains territory,” Støre said.
He emphasized that these are “momentous days for Ukraine” and, consequently, for Europe’s security for many years ahead.
