On March 24–26, the first session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on an international treaty establishing the Claims Commission for Ukraine took place. The Ukrainian delegation was led by Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Iryna Mudra.
During the session, the draft international treaty establishing the Claims Commission was reviewed, and key aspects of cooperation and the Commission’s organizational structure were discussed.
Iryna Mudra thanked the partners for their support and emphasized the global significance of restoring justice.
“One of the areas you are helping us with is compensation for the damage caused by Russia. This is part of our joint campaign to restore justice – for Ukraine and for the whole world. After all, this concerns not just Ukraine but also the fundamental principles of international law,” said the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office.
She also noted that one of Ukraine's key demands is that Russia compensate for all losses and damage caused since 2014. The total amount exceeds USD 1 trillion.
For Ukraine, the Claims Commission will be the second integral element of the International Compensation Mechanism. It will examine the claims submitted to the International Register of Damage Caused by the Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and determine the compensation amounts for the victims.
