The sanctions of the European Union against Russia have failed and therefore, it is necessary to start peace negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated this on Kossuth Rádió, and the text of his statement was published on the government website.

According to Orbán, there is a "peace camp", which includes Hungary, and where the solution to the current crisis can be seen through peace negotiations.

"The Holy Father is for peace. Kissinger is for peace. We were in Germany, there is a respectable philosopher named Habermas, a leftist, not from our political community. But he says the same thing that we do. There are Americans, Republicans, and world-class businessmen. I feel that the voice for a ceasefire and then for a peace agreement after the ceasefire is getting stronger," he said.

Orban also said sanctions against Russia are poorly designed, and energy restrictions are a dubious mechanism because in world history, sanctions are usually imposed by those who have a dominant position.

"Now, in the energy sector, it is doubtful whether we have a dominant position because we are the buyers and the Russians are the suppliers," the Hungarian prime minister said.

The current Hungarian government, led by Viktor Orban, has long been known for its pro-Russian stance. In particular, it has repeatedly blocked the imposition of new sanctions against Russia after the start of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

And in September, Orban called on the EU to lift all sanctions against Russia by the end of this year. He believes that the alleged sanctions, not the Kremlin's aggressive actions, are the cause of economic problems, the energy crisis and inflation in Europe.
