Since the beginning of the mobilization declared by Vladimir Putin a year ago, Russia has lost over 8,762 square kilometers of previously occupied territory in Ukraine. This is nearly 12 times more than Ukraine's territorial losses during the same period, which were around 731 square kilometers, based on Deepstate data.

The majority of the territory reclaimed by Ukraine is located in the right-bank part of the Kherson region, from which Russian forces retreated in November, less than two months after the start of mobilization. Prior to that, an area of about 5,750 square kilometers was under their control.

The withdrawal of the Russian army from the right bank of the Dnipro River allowed the Ukrainian Armed Forces to concentrate their counteroffensive on the Zaporizhzhia direction. However, the withdrawal and regrouping gave Russian forces time to prepare for defense. As a result, over the course of a year, the clashes in the Orikhove area resulted in almost no significant territorial changes. During this time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces were able to liberate over 120 square kilometers, while the Russian side captured about 86 square kilometers, which were previously under Ukrainian control.

On the adjacent Southern Donetsk direction, the Ukrainian Armed Forces operated more successfully. In the vicinity of the village of Velyka Novosilka, they managed to regain control of about 220 square kilometers of territory. In turn, Russian forces advanced slightly to the east, where they were able to occupy just under 80 square kilometers.

On the Donetsk direction itself, only Russia conducted an offensive. Over the course of a year, its army was able to occupy an area of about 140 square kilometers, while Ukrainian Armed Forces reclaimed control over about 5 square kilometers during the same period.

The largest territorial gain for Russia over the year was the capture of Bakhmut and its surroundings. Currently, an area of about 420 square kilometers is occupied there, which was under the control of Ukrainian Armed Forces a year ago.

In turn, the Ukrainian army conducted an even more successful offensive to the north of Bakhmut. Along the contact line from Lysychansk to Kupyansk, the Ukrainian Armed Forces were able to liberate about 2,660 square kilometers over the course of a year.
