The Verkhovna Rada has ratified the Grant Agreement between the governments of Ukraine and the Italian Republic for the project “Supporting the Efficient Use of Water Resources through the Improvement of Irrigation Systems and Practices in Odessa Region. Reconstruction of the Tatarbunary and Kiliia Irrigation Systems.”
The decision was supported by 238 members of parliament.
“The total amount of funding under this grant agreement is €6 million. These funds are aimed at increasing the efficiency of agricultural production, adapting to climate change, and improving the socio-economic development of the region. Within the framework of this project, a set of measures is envisaged to modernize and reconstruct two key irrigation systems in the Odessa region,” said Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development Kostiantyn Kovalchuk while presenting the project.
He уточнив, that the project provides for the reconstruction and modernization of pumping equipment, the cleaning of irrigation canals, and the introduction of automated control systems.
“It is expected that thanks to these measures, the irrigated area in the region will be expanded, the use of water resources will be optimized, and agricultural activity in the region will be revitalized,” Kovalchuk added.
The grant agreement between the governments of Ukraine and Italy was signed on July 10, 2025, in Rome.
